Tim grew up skiing on Coronet Peak in Queenstown, New Zealand. He raced with the Queenstown Alpine Ski Team (QAST) from age 10 and the NZ Alpine Ski Team from age 17. He competed for NZ at the World Championships in 2009 and 2011 and Vancouver Olympics in 2010; his top result a 31st in the 2011 Super-G.

After retiring from ski racing Tim became a coach and instructor. He has worked for QAST, Aspen Skiing Company, NZ Ski Instructor's Alliance and spent a number of years as personal coach to Alice Robinson, helping develop her from a junior racer to a World Cup podium athlete.
